Manufacturing
Whether involving the production of automobiles, computers, construction machinery, or other kinds of equipment, the manufacturing industry leaves little room for mistakes. This is especially true when it comes to communication, namely production orders for factory workers. Handwriting these orders generates mounds of paper waste and increases the chance of clerical errors. With Smart Cards, managers can deliver real-time, paperless orders directly to their staff to eliminate the costs of paper / ink and keep operations running smoothly.
Distribution
Product distribution is one of the greatest sources of paper waste due to the ongoing need for labels, tags, and barcodes. Smart Cards completely eliminate this need by displaying product information received directly from the user’s smartphone, offering a digitized solution to conventional labels. When combined with our Pick-to-Light systems, Smart Card facilitates the process of transferring items around the warehouse, turning distribution centers into facilities that almost operate themselves.
Food Service
Speed is always a desirable trait in the field of food service, but some activities like billing and payment often delay the transaction. To expedite this process, a conveyor-belt restaurant in Japan embeds dishes with RFID tags and scans them with a handheld terminal. Once the total price of a customer’s meal is calculated, the amount is displayed on a Smart Card which the customer brings to the register. By knowing the price in advance thanks to their pre-processed, paperless bill, customers can prepare for payment before they arrive at the register, saving time and money.
Health Care
Working in the medical field requires handling sensitive information with utmost care, and the need for paper labels to designate certain equipment for certain patients doesn’t make this task any easier. By loading private data onto Smart Cards instead, hospitals and other medical centers can easily and quickly erase this information once it is no longer needed. Unlike data written on paper, which can be recovered and leaked, Smart Card protects personal information and reduces the risks of compromise.
Maintenance
Monitoring maintenance throughout a building usually involves workers recording their time on paper check-in sheets, a process prone to waste and error. Many of our European clients have implemented Smart Cards to replace these paper check-in systems throughout their facilities. This application allows cleaning staff to log the completion of their work by simply holding their smartphone next to a wall-mounted Smart Card, making the process of tracking these tasks quick, accurate, and paper-free.
Businesses/Organizations
Security is key when running a business that receives visitors on a daily basis. Instead of making receptionists waste valuable time and money on handwritten badges and visitation records, Smart Card allows visitors to create their own unique visitor badge, complete with their personal information, who they’re visiting and why, and even their picture. At the end of the visit, Smart Card deletes all personal information. This process is easy for even the least tech-savvy person, and it results in better security as well as greater savings.
Although the above categories are the most common situations in which Smart Cards are utilized, they are by no means the only ones. Because Smart Cards are blank slates that can be marked with whatever information you desire, they can be applied to virtually any scenario in which paper is normally used – and wasted – for short-term communication.
